As rumors circulated that the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) decision on rescheduling cannabis could arrive before the new year, Cannabis Business Times’ readers continued to engage heavily with articles related to this topic.

Coming in at No. 1 for CBT’s 10 most-read articles this month was a piece about a Dec. 13 letter crafted by 29 former U.S. attorneys who urged key figures with the DEA and the Department of Justice to reject a recommendation that cannabis be reclassified under the Controlled Substances Act. Dentons partner Eric Berlin referred to the letter as “the arm [of] reefer madness reaching up from the grave” in an exclusive with Senior Digital Editor Melissa Schiller.

Among other articles CBT readers engaged with most this month were those that covered the popular topics of 280E taxes (notably a feature with Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers), the SAFER Banking Act, Ohio legalization, Alabama’s medical cannabis licensing and a federal reform bill introduced by Rep. Dave Joyce, R-Ohio.

In addition, Schiller’s article on California-based Grassdoor, a cannabis delivery operator that notified its employees they were laid off “effective immediately,” highlights the ongoing rippling effects of a broken supply chain, one in which operators aren’t getting paid by their business partners. This story came in at No. 2 this month.

Other most-read articles included new research on whether terpenes alone are responsible for aroma, changes to Colorado’s RFID tagging system, and Curaleaf’s exit from the Vermont and Michigan markets.
